Spoilers
Spoilers are fins located on either the trunks or roofs of vehicles, or on the front of them. Often, you find them on sports cars. However, these days, many other cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans have them, too.
They're commonest, in fact, on crossovers and cars, as roof and trunk spoilers, respectively. On certain performance vehicles, they're front spoilers or air dams. Pickups, though, can have bed or cab spoilers, either or both; the former attach to box rails, while the latter install on the roofs of some passenger compartments. There are even dynamically adjustable models for sale out there, called active spoilers; they can change position based on feedback from the carputer and other electronics.
At any rate, many are made of ABS plastic, but you can get others made of ruggeder materials, such as fiberglass, silicone, or the ultimate in durability, carbon fiber. What they all do is add a stylish accent to your ride. They can also make it more aerodynamic, too. This is accomplished by forcing air to move across a vehicle's body conducive to cutting down on air resistance. Traction is slightly improved, and as a result, the drive smooths out considerably. You may even see a fuel efficiency bump for the better, in some cases.
Over time, however, things like accidents and weather can damage them, unfortunately. If you're looking to replace yours, be sure to buy genuine OEM. GM designs and builds its spoilers with your brand and model in mind, after all. Color-matched, too. That's a compatibility guarantee.
